I’m pretty certain that I don’t want a fresh flower bouquet despite my ridiculous love for the flowers. (cue Golden Afternoon) I know crazy town. Anyhoo…
I collect vintage enamel flower pins and have for a long time. My collection started when I was around 13. My adopted grandma passed away and her memorial included champagne and her vast assortment of costume jewelry spread out on her bed for friends/family to remember her by. I couldn’t cash in on the champers, but I did score a few impressive and much beloved pieces of enamel that day.
Since then I’ve randomly added to my collection at various thrift stores, vintage boutiques, and flea markets. I love a good deal and almost never pay more than a few bucks for each piece. More recently I’ve ramped up my hunt to include online treasure troves like ebay and etsy, where you can often times score “lots” of the stuff for super cheap. Why the recent upsurge in enamel purchases you wonder?
Worldwide enamel domination of course. And I’m gonna make my bouquet outta these babies too! And it’s gonna be awesome! I understand if you need a visual:

AND a few from my own collection:

These bouquets are joyful, bright, and the perfect mix of vintage-quirky-wonderful for me! I LOVE them and can’t wait to turn my pins into such amazing wedding day art. I look forward to displaying my beautiful bouquet for many years to come OR ripping it apart and reincorporating my beloved pins into my daily wardrobe OR ripping it apart and handing those bad boys out to my wedding guests. Kinda like a bouquet toss. On second thought my hand/eye coordination may not be up to snuff for such an involved activity that late in the wedding game. So scratch that.
Are you going for a non-traditional bouquet? Or something else entirely?

What do ten awesome friends, one baby, two dogs, many bottles of wine and an afternoon in the sunshine add up to?
Seven measly wedding cranes. Four crane fails. A bit of a hangover. And a wonderful reminder of just how easy it is to throw a great party when surrounded by people you love. Awesome food, beautiful flowers and free-flowing wine don’t hurt either! I’m just sayin…
So while Easter wasn’t exactly the the crane-making extravaganza I was (secretly) hoping for, it sure was a hell of a lot of fun! We had the opportunity to host our first dinner party in our new home and and I’m talking about a super fantastic with a dollop of awesome sauce fun-fest. We don’t mess around.
AND just wait ‘til you see all the top secret wedding details we managed to squeeze in and test drive on our unsuspecting guests! What can I say, I’m a theater kid at heart and I love me a good dress rehearsal!
** WARNING: This post is chock a block full of awesome photos kinda like a freshfromthefarmer’smarket heirloom tomato that just bursts in your mouth. Or pop rocks. Maybe pop rocks are a better example. Anyway get ready for the explosion.

AND the pretty people:

AND the pretty food:

AND yes, even the failed cranes are pretty:

So if the fun, friends, and flowers at our wedding turn out anything like Easter, well, it’s going to be amazing. EPIC even. Squeal. I really can’t wait.
Do moments spent with friends/family fuel your excitement for your wedding too? Or are we just freaks? It’s okay. We know!
ps. all photos by moi, except for a few I snagged from my awesome friend Katie. Thanks lady!

It’s moving week here in Awesome world. Sigh. As I sit on my couch writing this post I’m surrounded by half-finished STD’s and an ever increasing sea of boxes that make my heart race. And not in a good way. And then there’s the wedding crap.
Have you ever looked around at the fast accumulating wedding crap that’s taking over your house/apartment/life and wondered what the hell am I gonna do with this stuff after the wedding?
In attempting to have a green (ish) wedding I like to think about where this stuff is going after our wedding and not just rejoice in my initial discovery.
This goes for all our wedding inspired handicrafts as well. Like the cranes. Yup, like a bunch of blog-land brides we’re making a 1001 cranes. What’s that? You don’t remember me talking about them? Right. That might have something to do with the fact that so far we’ve done zip. zilch. zero. There’s a practice crane or two floating around the apartment, but definitely not a wedding worthy crane in sight. But don’t worry- we’re not. We’ve still got six months and a whole bunch of willing friends, so we’re thinking of hosting a few crafting/crane making parties where your admission is a set number of cranes. It’s really just an excuse to drink with our friends, but it’ll get the job done.
Anyhow the important question is what in the hell are we going to do with 1001 effing paper cranes? I have no doubt whatsoever that they’ll be gorgeous but I already want ‘em out of our house (and we haven’t even made ‘em yet) And of course I’d love it if they weren’t a total waste of paper/trees but it might break my heart to shove them all in the recycling bin…
Then I came across The Crane Chandelier Project and now I know what we’ll be doing with our cranes. All 999 of them. We’ve gotta keep a few right? The Wedding Co. is creating a giant 10,000 crane chandelier from recently engaged/married couples cranes and is donating 50 cents per crane to cancer research.

Do the math. That’s 499.50 to cancer research. And 999 beautiful cranes included in what’s sure to be a gorgeous piece of art. This makes me so happy.
And today being happy makes our big move bearable. Any creative or charitable recycling happening after your wedding?

you know the world is gonna be a better place when kids like my nephew grow up. We took him to Disneyland for the day (awesome) and a few times when I thought he was trying to get MY attention with his persistent, “aunty, aunty look” he was talking to C. sigh. heart melts.
