A Public Service Announcement from Ms. Awesome!
Yo People!
Happy Monday! Seriously happy! BEST. MONDAY. EVER.
Have I got some bananas, out-of-this-world, effing awesome news for you! Are you ready for it? Are you sitting down?
Yours truly is gonna be a bee! I know you all know what I’m talking about already, but if for some reason you don’t (?) then head on over to Weddingbee and check me out-
Miss Stripes is the new bee buzzing into town today and I’m so excited to share our big fat awesome two-bride wedding with the Weddingbee community! And don’t worry- I’ll still be posting all the goodness here on Ms. Awesome Weds too, b/c I love you guys and your genius comments and sass make my day. Seriously.
So let’s talk for a minute about this decision to blog for Weddingbee (who we all know is owned by eharmony). It’s not one I took lightly, believe you me. Nope. eharmony skeeves me out a little, but I sure do love Weddingbee! In the past LGBTQ Bees and their allies left the hive due to the whole bought-by-eharmony-thing and I totally respect and admire their decision. I kept debating if I should even apply to be a bee b/c of this sticky little ownership situation.
AND then I said eff it! In my world there is no better way to advocate for marriage equality, than to do so in the most personal way I know how, and that’s to talk about my OWN impending gay nuptials. To as many people as possible. And the opportunity to do so for the giant and diverse Weddingbee readership is pretty amazing.
So that’s that. Feel free to agree or disagree with me (but be nice) and please keep reading! I promise to keep the awesome coming!
xoxo

Miss Stripes
ps. Please accept this post as an explanation for all future references to stripes/cute nicknames including stripe references and general stripy silliness. Know that I have not gone bonkers or developed a bizarre and unfounded stripe fixation, but that I’m just too lazy to start another separate “Weddingbee only” blog.

I’m so excited for you! I don’t comment often, but I’ve been reading your blog for awhile now. There hasn’t been a LGBTQ Bee for soooo long and I’m really happy to finally see one. Can’t wait to follow you over on the ‘Bee!!
You will be an entirely welcome addition to the hive. I don’t spend much time over there (sorry eharmony) but I’m so excited that they’ll get to spend time with you and your perspective and wedding!
Congrats!
I love reading the emotional board, because they make me feel less crazy, but I’ve been hating on the bee for awhile because I read that they didn’t allow same sex couples to blog. Are you the first? If so, more power to you! You are amazing either way and Im glad you will bring some much needed flavor to the hive.
Whoa, Cupcake! The Bee totally allows same-sex couples to blog! Mrs. Gingerbread (from Two Chicks Nest) was their first gay blogger and she left when e-harmony bought the site. Mrs. Sweet Tea (Cats, Cheese, & a Wedding Please) was a very out bisexual blogger who left shortly after the sale, not entirely because of it but not-not because of it. The fact is that the e-harmony sale drove away a lot of same-sex bloggers who probably would have applied – which is unfortunate and frustrating.
I agree with the new Ms. Stripes that the best way to advocate for marriage equality is to talk about it, in a way that is personal and real, and I think that the fact that e-harmony scared off a lot of potential same-sex bees is really unfortunate, so I’m SO GLAD that you are going to bee a bee! (It makes me want to reconsider my decision not to apply…)
I’m really looking forward to how people react to you talking about your “two-dress” wedding – because that’s the hardest stereotype to dispel about same-sex couples, and I think it will be a refreshing dialogue.
Congrats!
woohoo! so glad to be seeing your posts on wb!
OMG! awesome!
Congrats on Beehood! I think exposure to the masses will help the marriage equality cause more than boycotting WB. Many congrats! Looking forward to seeing you on the Bee!
That’s AWSOME:) Congrats!
Thanks for all the love!
I agree with Ellie. I think I might have felt differently about blogging there if I weren’t just another straight bee. The climate there is different now then it was then, too, which I think has a lot to do with it. It would suck if WB were a “straight” site because same-sex couples hated eHarmony so much they stayed away. I, for one, am happy to see that you are a bee!
Yay Ms. Awesome/Ms. Stripes! I’ve loved reading your posts so far on the ‘Bee and I can’t wait to see what else you’ve got up your sleeve! I’ve been a WB reader for many moons now (even though I’m not… ummm… engaged) and recently I’ve had a hard time distinguishing between some of the bees, a problem I hadn’t had in the past. I take that to mean that there’s not as much diversity as there could be right now, but I think you and a few other of my faves are doing something about that. So yay!
