wedding wednesday: genderqueer extravaganza!

Meet Aly & Elroi and be prepared for some serious HOTness!

This wedding already went around the blogs way back when, but it’s so completely and totally amazing that I can’t help but post it here in the hopes that some of you haven’t seen it.  And if you have- look again. And again. And again. I know I will.

All photos courtesy of Our Labor of Love. Check ‘em out! If I was in Atlanta or had serious $$$ I’d be ALL OVER them. (And if we didn’t already have the MOST amazing photographer ever- but that’s for another post.)

So let’s start with this amazing shot of aly’s dress (made by a friend no less!).  There is something so sweet about this barefoot pic.

And finally- nothing like a bride after my own heart: a dachshund!

(awesome side note: the couple has 5 dogs and they were part of the wedding festivities too!)

And if you’re itching for more you can:

Read Aly’s write-up over on Kvetch. It’s beautiful and will make you cry like a baby.

Check out the WHOLE damn gallery over at Our Labor of Love. sigh. happiness.

Watch the LOGO show all about Aly/Elroi’s wedding.

And not to spoil any good news, but if you’re in love with this couple the way I am, then you’ll be so happy to see:

Lest you fear that I don’t have serious love for flowers of ALL stripes, I give you… The Tale of our Trip to The LA Flower Mart!

So one day last September, the obsessive planner/crazy-bride-to-be in me had a brilliant idea-  we should go to the flower mart to scout the types of flowers that would be available next year!  (Did I say brilliant? I may have meant cuckoo…)  But I didn’t stop there! Nope!  I figured we could even make a few arrangements to test drive the milk glass that was already taking over our kitchen island. Yay!  So I quickly threw together a flower inspiration board to guide our journey:

The following day, in honor of our wedding being less than one year away and both of us having a surprise day off today, we headed down to the LA Flower Mart to check out what’s available. It’s a pretty quick walk from our house, and thank god, because the day was seriously TOASTY.  The kind of TOASTY that LA could use right. about. now. You hear that rain?  Anyhoo.

It was nice and cool in the Flower Mart. We made a big loop and then headed back to the stalls we liked to grab flowers for our test centerpieces.

Here’s a few shots of us with all our loot:

We made it back home, downed some water, and started stripping leaves, and cutting the flowers down to create these:

**Note: if you’re allergic to pollen/flowers/all-that’s-pretty, suck back the claritin/zyrtec/benadryl BEFORE you start this project.  These beauties caused a full scale allergy fiasco for F Stripes and we’ll (I’ll) definitely be doing the pre-wedding arranging elsewhere. (Hint. Hint. J Stripe)

Allergies aside, it was pretty easy and only took about an hour or so.  And the best part?  All those beautiful flowers only cost $40. Yup. Serious pretty, serious cheap.

Next time I want to incorporate succulents/billy buttons into the arrangements, but all-in-all I’m pretty happy with the way they turned out!  Now because it was so much fun the first time around and because we live crazy close to the Flower Mart, I’m thinking of doing another test drive some day soon….

Any words of advice or are you leaving flowers up to a professional/enthusiastic friend or relative?

So What’s a Two-Bride Wedding Look Like Anyhow??

Well folks, I hate to disappoint, but I think it’s gonna look just like any other wedding.

Um. Scratch that.  It’s OUR wedding so it’s gonna be awesome.

Here’s one of the first inspiration board I made after we decided on a venue.  I’m still pretty in love with it, although it has definitely evolved a bit.

Wedding-Board

What do I like about this board? Well it’s fun, it’s festive, it’s a little girly and it’s pretty laid-back.  It’s a very pretty party that I’d like to be a part of! (say that 3 times fast)

What’s gonna change? I think we’re going to incorporate some brighter color/pattern for the bridesmaids and go a little less shabby and a little more chic. Vintage/modern french carnival anyone?

I’ll have to devote another post to the actual practical differences in a two-bride wedding- you know who walks who down the aisle first, how our (all female) attendants walk down the aisle- alone? together? etc.. and the all-important, all-dreaded, “I now pronounce you partners for life.” Eff that nonsense. We’re getting married, not starting our own business people.

So stay tuned for that!

*shush. I know it’s thursday, but my modem died last night, and I’m too excited to wait for next wednesday. so…

my mission: to find/share an awesome gay-girl wedding every wednesday until our own!

i wonder: are there enough awesome, DIY, rock n’ roll girls with attitude getting married (to each other) out there?

I guess we’ll find out, but please send any you may know of my way!

First up: Sam & Julia.

Beautiful photographs: Closed Circle Photography.

Thanks Kelly! Boston area brides should check out her work stat!

This wedding is absolute & total perfection!  Seriously gorgeous brides, awesome tattoos, beautiful fall decorations, and a really amazingly happy family.  This is pretty much the wedding I dream of! Vintage gowns, a post-ceremony tuxedo, that shot of the bridesmaids on the bed? The details are awesome, but screw the details! Do you see how damn happy everyone is in pretty much EVERY photo?  Totally amazing. I can only hope for such complete and total joy and happiness on our wedding day! Totally awesome. Are you ready for it?
