Ice Cream + Cookies

Some wedding decisions should be easy.

This is one of those decisions.

But that doesn’t mean I didn’t debate it for months, get lured in by all the pretty dessert tables around the blogosphere, and turn C’s desire to cut the cake into the need for a full blown cake table extravaganza.

Then last week she mentioned that cutting the cake wasn’t really very important to her. And just like that our paramount wedding dessert decision was made.

Cool Haus Ice Cream Sandwiches. Custom-made for our guests and nestled in an edible wrapper with a logo/graphic (cue chorus of angels) of our choice. Rad right?

Here’s how it all works. Cool Haus rolls up with 5 cookie choices and 7 ice cream choices, and our tipsy guests get to gorge themselves on all-they-can-eat custom-made ice cream sammies. YUMTASTIC.

The Cookies: chocolate, chocolate chip, ginger, oatmeal raisin, snickerdoodle, brioche

The Ice Cream: blood orange, brown butter with candied bacon, chocolate chipotle, cinnamon, coffee toffee, dirty mint chip, meyer lemon, vanilla bean, lambrusco, baked apple, sea salt caramel, mascarpone, balsamic fig, red velvet, pistachio w/black truffles, foie gras

And the Ice Cream Sammie Porn:

Oh! And the best part- when I said they roll up, I wasn’t kidding! Cool Haus shows up and serves your guests in this adorable converted mail cart:

Now we just have to decide which flavors to offer our guests from their oh so drool inducing choices! Which flavors sound the best to you? Which combo would you choose?

All Different Types of Pretty.

What do ten awesome friends, one baby, two dogs, many bottles of wine and an afternoon in the sunshine add up to?

Seven measly wedding cranes.  Four crane fails.  A bit of a hangover. And a wonderful reminder of just how easy it is to throw a great party when surrounded by people you love.  Awesome food, beautiful flowers and free-flowing wine don’t hurt either! I’m just sayin…

So while Easter wasn’t exactly the the crane-making extravaganza I was (secretly) hoping for, it sure was a hell of a lot of fun!  We had the opportunity to host our first dinner party in our new home and and I’m talking about a super fantastic with a dollop of awesome sauce fun-fest. We don’t mess around.

AND just wait ‘til you see all the top secret wedding details we managed to squeeze in and test drive on our unsuspecting guests!  What can I say, I’m a theater kid at heart and I love me a good dress rehearsal!

** WARNING: This post is chock a block full of awesome photos kinda like a freshfromthefarmer’smarket heirloom tomato that just bursts in your mouth.  Or pop rocks. Maybe pop rocks are a better example.  Anyway get ready for the explosion.

So if the fun, friends, and flowers at our wedding turn out anything like Easter, well, it’s going to be amazing. EPIC even. Squeal. I really can’t wait.

Do moments spent with friends/family fuel your excitement for your wedding too?  Or are we just freaks? It’s okay. We know! :)

ps. all photos by moi, except for a few I snagged from my awesome friend Katie. Thanks lady!

Registry Revelations

Our dialogue/feelings about having a registry have come a long freakin’ way since we got engaged.

We started out saying that we wouldn’t have a registry, weren’t little grub monsters and didn’t need any kitchen crap anyways.

We then progressed to saying maybe, just maybe, we could have a honeymoon registry because we sure would like to travel on someone else’s dime.

The other day we pondered putting a few global knives and a fancy food processor on the list.

And then last weekend I found myself standing in Heath Ceramics wondering if our friends would really buy us twenty dollar coffee cups?

Is it even ethical to own a twenty dollar coffee cup?

They are beautiful and hand-crafted right here in California…

Anyway I guess in an effort to maintain my street cred with the indie bride crowd I’d hoped to have some instrinsic, knee-jerk revulsion towards the idea of a registry and well, I just don’t.  I mean who doesn’t love presents?  And as Lil’ Stripe, aka bridesmaid K, aka one wise married lady once told me, “They’re gonna get you presents anyway, do you really want doilies??”

So I guess we’re having a registry because we definitely do not want doilies. We might even want to add a charitable/marriage equality related registry, or would that just be overkill?  What about you? Any registry revelations?

REWIND/FAST FORWARD: Little Known Facts.

uber nerd on the right! LOL.

uber nerd on the right! LOL.

Well I made it through my first day as a bee and it was pretty awesome!  I think we were both secretly a little afraid of negative comments raining on our love-fest and the absolute opposite proved true- we were overwhelmed by awesome and encouraging comments all day!

Crisis averted.  Fear Subsides. The Hive is awesome.

By way of introductions, I wrote this little ‘ol post to share over there, and then realized it contained some info I’d never shared here on Ms. Awesome. So have at it.

I interrupt our usual blue skies, unicorns and the show tunes that define gay wedding planning, to give you a few more random facts than you ever needed.  Come on you know you wanna know this stuff!

Here goes.  Let’s play finish that sentence.

We met on Match.com  Ain’t no shame in that right?

Okay. Okay. I’ll admit we’ve been known to say we met through a friend of a friend or some such nonsense on more than one occasion, but it’s a big fat lie!  Fiancee stripes winked at me, I shot her an email, and the rest is just below for your reading pleasure.

Our first date was awesome!  We met for wine at Banquette, my local wine/coffee house, then we walked to the Downtown Independant and saw Persepolis, and then we knocked back some whiskey, made fun of people, and made out at Bar 107.  We finished the night with some tender (ha!) kisses in the rain. Cue music. Sigh.

Our Second date consisted of a trip to the Getty, a picnic lunch, and wine in a thermos.  Wine in a thermos?! Another sigh.  Clearly a girl after my own heart.  I don’t remember any of the art.

Fast Forward Six Months and in true lezzyBEE fashion she moved in!

Marriage and kids and all that jazz have always been a part of our dialogue and so the next bit might seem a bit surprising.  It’s actually one of my deep dark secrets here in wedding world.

See C proposed first and I freaked the f#$k out!  Seriously I’m lucky she stuck around seeing as I pretty much pulled a Carrie Bradshaw and wore the ring in an, ahem, untraditional style (read on my right hand).

It was just too much, too fast and even though I wanted to marry her (desperately) I couldn’t bear to slide that ring on my left finger and be an “engaged” lady just yet.  This is a pretty clear example of the planning/spontaneity dynamic we have going on.  Luckily she stuck around, I worked through my issues, and our dog Oscar took care of the ring.  He ate it.  And that was that.

Fast Forward Two Years and here we are, chronicling our adventures for you as we plan our awesome wedding!  A lot has happened, that’s for sure!  We’ve traveled many miles (Paris, New York, The Bahamas, Miami, and Vancouver), made a home together, added to our furry family (now 2 dogs, 1 cat), laughed, cried, and danced.

To sum it up (or break it down)

We’re just two girls who love books, food, dance parties and each other.

*We also love whiskey in combo with any of the above!

So grab a glass, sit back, and join us as we return to our regularly scheduled programming (blue skies, unicorns, show tunes) and continue exploring the question How the hell did we get here?

I know it’s a little bit of an odd “getting to know you” to post as my very first one over on the hive, but I think that it’s important to keep our heads on straight (hee hee) in this whole wedding planning business and realize that our lives and relationship trajectories don’t have to be perfect to make for great relationships, wedding planning, and yes, even marriage.

What about you?  How’d you get to the place you are now in your relationship?  Any premature proposals or bumps along the way?
